Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has published a list of officials affected by the recall of diplomatic and service passports issued under the administration of President John Dramani Mahama’s predecessor.
On January 15, the Office of the President instructed the recall of all diplomatic and service passports granted during the tenure of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. This action is part of efforts to reinforce the integrity of Ghana’s official travel documents and diplomatic relations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the recall in a statement, listing the affected individuals as follows:
Former Ministers and their spouses
Former Members of Parliament, regardless of political affiliation
Former Members of the Council of State and their spouses
Former and retired justices of the Superior and Lower Courts
Former Regional Ministers, Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives, Chief Executive Officers of State Institutions, and Chairs and Members of Boards
Officials associated with the National Cathedral Project
Former Political Ambassadors and their dependants
Businessmen and Entrepreneurs
Religious and Traditional Leaders
Former Government Functionaries
Any other individuals holding official passports who are not currently serving in an official capacity or do not meet the criteria under sections 6 and 7 of the Passports and Travel Certificates Act, 1967 (NLCD 155).
The affected officials are required to return their passports to the Legal and Treaties Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by Friday, January 24, 2025. This recall aims to review all Diplomatic and Service Passports in line with current eligibility criteria and to prevent misuse, ensuring the integrity of Ghana’s official travel documents.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called for the cooperation of all passport holders in carrying out this important directive.
