NDC in political turmoil as out-of-court-settlement backfires
Rank and file of Ghana’s biggest opposition NDC attempted to opt for an out-of-court settlement as the case filed by Flagbearer Aspirant Dr. Kwabena Duffour against the party over alleged bloated voter’s register could delay the election as scheduled for Saturday May 13, 2023.
National Democratic Congress is set to battle an injunction application filed by one of its Flagbearer aspirants, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor at the High Court in Accra today.
The party, according to sources has failed in all attempts to settle the case out of court. All efforts to meet applicant Dr. Duffour’s lawyers in the past hours have failed. This has paved the way for the injunction to be heard Friday.
The Party leadership is, however, confident about the election taking off as scheduled and has since directed all aspirants and delegates to be prepared for it.
The Duffuor team wants the primaries suspended over what they describe as discrepancies in the voter register and the absence of a photo album. They want the elections stalled until all outstanding issues raised are addressed.
The Electoral Commission has pulled out from the election with reasons that it will not provide supervision until the legal hurdle is cleared.
Many, have called on the NDC to opt for an out-of-court settlement as the issue could delay the election as scheduled.
However, information indicates that all efforts to settle the case out of court have been unsuccessful. A last-minute meeting scheduled for Thursday night was also unsuccessful as lawyers for Dr. Kwabena Duffuor are still insisting on resolving the case in court.
