NDC MPs to challenge NPP’s motion to recall Parliament in court

Legislators from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) plan to contest a motion by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to recall Parliament. This follows the Speaker’s decision to adjourn the House indefinitely after NPP MPs walked out on October 21.

South Dayi MP Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor accused the governing party of misusing the recall provision. In an interview on JoyNews, he announced that the NDC is preparing to take legal action to block the NPP’s request for the Speaker to facilitate the recall.

In their letter to the Speaker, the NPP Caucus emphasized the need to address urgent government business upon recall, which included tax exemptions for companies involved in the One District One Factory Programme, various bills, and the financial stability fund.

Referencing the constitution and Parliament’s standing orders, the NPP Caucus asserted that Speaker Bagbin is required to recall Parliament within seven days of receiving their request.
