Nigeria files fresh charges against Ex-Central Bank Boss

The Ex-Governor of Nigeria’s central bank is set to appear in a Lagos Court on Monday following new charges of misuse of office and corruption. Godwin Emefiele, facing previous procurement fraud charges in Abuja, denies all allegations.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed fresh charges, including fraudulent foreign exchange allocation of $2 billion without supporting bids between 2022 and 2023. Emefiele was suspended by President Bola Tinubu last June and remains in detention.

Under Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria has rolled back foreign exchange controls established by Emefiele and devalued the currency.
