The National Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially announced the commencement of its Ad Hoc Committee’s work to monitor the activities of presidential aspirants ahead of the party’s primaries. The move, according to the Council, is aimed at preserving party unity and promoting a disciplined, issue-based campaign environment.
Committee’s mandate and leadership
Chaired by Ing. Dr. Kwasi Abeasi, the Ad Hoc Committee has been tasked with overseeing the conduct, public statements, and engagements of all aspirants and their campaign teams. The committee’s role is to identify and address any behavior that could potentially incite division or disunity within the party.
Call for cooperation and discipline
In a press statement issued on Thursday, October 9, the Council urged all presidential hopefuls, their teams, and supporters to cooperate fully with the Committee. It emphasized the need for campaigns to be conducted with respect, discipline, and a focus on policy issues rather than personal attacks.
“All aspirants and their teams are advised to be mindful of their statements and actions during the campaign period,” the Council warned.
Reporting offensive conduct encouraged
The Council also encouraged party members and the general public to report any comments, actions, or social media content by aspirants or their teams that may be considered offensive or divisive. Such incidents, it said, should be referred directly to the Committee for review and necessary action.
Focus on party unity ahead of 2026 primaries
With the NPP presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026, the leadership has made it clear that maintaining internal cohesion is of paramount importance—not just for the primaries, but also in preparation for the 2028 general elections.
A message of solidarity and victory
“Let us all work together in the spirit of discipline, respect, and solidarity to ensure a peaceful and united NPP ready for victory in 2028,” the statement concluded, signaling the party’s broader strategic focus beyond the upcoming primaries.
