NPP affiliation won’t influence my work -SC Nominee

Supreme Court Nominee, Justice Ernest Yao Gaewu was has refuted claims that his past affliction with the governing NPP will influence his work at the Supreme Court. This was after the Minority Leader raised concerns about his political history.

Supreme Court Nominee, Justice Ernest Yao Gaewu was the last to appear before the Appointment Committee of Parliament.

Justice Gaewu, who has been a High Court Judge for two years, was the NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate for Ho Central in the crucial 2016 elections.

The opposition MPs on the vetting committee raised red flags his political history will influence his application of the law to tilt the wheels of justice towards the governing party.

But, Justice Gaewu in a sharp rebuttal said, he will not be influenced by his political history and association with the governing party.

Justice Gaewu also gave reasons why he failed to declare his assets after holding public office which is mandated by Ghana’s constitution.

Meanwhile, Supreme Court Nominee Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu Asiedu has proposed trial of appeal, national security and chieftaincy cases to be handled at the Appeal Court to reduce the volume of work at the Apex Court.

Justice Asiedu also wants constitutional amendment to allow community sentencing of accused persons to decongest prisons.
