NPP pulls out of all Media General platforms
The New Patriotic Party (NPP), through its communications directorate, has announced its immediate withdrawal from all Media General platforms, including TV3, 3 FM, and Onua FM.
This decision was communicated in a press release issued on Sunday, 26 January 2025, and signed by Richard Ahiagbah, the party’s Director of Communications.
The statement outlined that the NPP’s departure follows months of attempts to address concerns over what the party described as unprofessional, biased, and abusive moderation by Media General hosts. Despite repeated assurances from the media house since 2023, the NPP claims these issues have persisted.
“We regret to announce that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is withdrawing from all Media General platforms. This decision follows numerous discussions with the production team, hosts, and management to resolve ongoing concerns over biased and unprofessional behavior,” the release stated.
The NPP also highlighted specific instances where it believes Media General failed to address misconduct. One such example involved a regular guest making inflammatory remarks about former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during a program hosted by Madam Keminni Amanor. The party claims the host failed to intervene, instead laughing off the remarks, which the NPP described as inappropriate and disrespectful.
“We are perplexed by Media General’s stance,” the release continued. “Additionally, TV3’s political programs have shown a clear bias in paneling, often stacking the panel with individuals whose political affiliations are openly known to support one side, leaving the NPP with just one representative. This approach seems more about ticking a box than genuinely fostering balanced debate.”
The NPP concluded by urging Media General to reconsider its current approach, hoping the network will move away from a perceived activist stance and work towards providing fair and balanced coverage for the people of Ghana.
