Nuclear power plant won’t have negative effects- Prof. Nyarko

Director General of Ghana Atomic Energy Commission Prof. B.J.B Nyarko says Ghana has enough experiences in the management of the nuclear energy system, adding that establishment of nuclear power in the country will not poss threats to society.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with some selected media houses in Accra, Director General of Ghana Atomic Energy Commission, Professor B.J.B Nyarko expressed that, stakeholders in the sector intend to ensure that the country’s vision of establishing nuclear power plant is realised.

According to him, Ghana Atomic Energy Commission, is in the position to go ahead with the implementation of the nuclear power program which has three Phases of which the first phase would be ready in two years time.

The second phase will be completed hopefully in 2024 there after the third face will continue.

Prof. Nyarko added that, though he is retiring from the commission,his successors will continue the foundation he has already laid for the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission to advance the atomic energy sector.

Ghana is fast growing country and therefore there is a need to have the nuclear power plants to backup the current power.

Professor Nyarko was optimistic that this will go along way for generations unborn to come and benefit in future.
