Nuclear Regulatory Authority Board inaugurated
Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovations (MESTI), Dr Kwaku Afriyie has inaugurated a-7 Member of the 3rd Governing Board of Nuclear Regulatory Authority to help push for Ghana’s Nuclear Energy Power Generation. At the swearing-in of the board members in Accra, Dr. Afriyie charged them to help achieve Ghana’s first nuclear power plant.
The inauguration is in accordance with Section 7 of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority Act, 2015 Act 895.
Addressing the Board during the inauguration, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie said, the new board takes office at a time when there are global uncertainties ranging from economic instability, climate uncertainties, energy crisis, potential food shortage, the unpredictable consequences of Russian- Ukraine war which he says is optimistic they will do better.
Dr. Kwaku Afriyie added that, with the Declaration by the President Akufo-Addo on Ghana’s inclusion of Nuclear Technology in its Power Generation Mix, it behooves on the governing board of this all-important regulatory body to initiate pragmatic policies and actions that will best prepare the Authority to effectively deliver on its mandate for the nuclear power programme.
The Chairperson of the Governing Board of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority, Prof. Aba A. Bentil Andam commended President for trust in the board at this point, as she assured the government of the boards unending commitment to achieving Ghana’s nuclear power agenda.
