Eric Apeadu Yeboah, who serves as a Special Aide to O. B Amoah, the current Member of Parliament for Akuapem South, has won the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary for the constituency.
Securing 267 votes out of the total valid votes cast on Saturday, March 2, 2024, Yeboah emerged victorious with 49.3%, earning him the parliamentary candidacy for the constituency.
The election, held at the Presby Women’s College of Education in Aburi, saw 574 delegates gathering to select a parliamentary candidate for the NPP in the Akuapem South Constituency of the Eastern Region.
Initially postponed due to the withdrawal of the incumbent MP, O.B Amoah, from the race, the primary eventually pitted Yeboah against Frank Aidoo, the Municipal Chief Executive, as well as Eric Samuel Annor Mensah and Kwame Ofori Gyau.
Despite a brief disturbance over accusations of delegate manipulation, security personnel and regional executives maintained order. Aidoo received 69 votes, Mensah 54, and Gyau 152.
The Eastern Regional Secretary of the party, Tony Osei Adjei, overseeing the election, emphasized plans to promote unity within the party ranks. He dismissed concerns that the primary delay would affect the party’s success in December.
In his acceptance speech, Yeboah thanked the delegates for their support and urged them to work diligently to ensure victory in the upcoming election. Meanwhile, the current MP stressed the importance of unity in moving forward.
