Police prosecutors can’t prosecute cases exceeding ¢500k –CJ to judges

In response to a letter from the Attorney-General limiting police prosecutors to cases with a monetary value not exceeding GH¢500,000, Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo issued a directive to all judges. The directive stated that cases exceeding this limit should be forwarded to the Office of the Attorney General for further examination and advice. The Chief Justice emphasized the importance of lower court judges being aware of these limits to avoid instances where police prosecutors handle cases beyond their mandate. In a letter dated March 4, 2024, the Chief Justice notified the judges of this directive and requested their compliance.
