SC to hear NDC’s case on parliamentary re-collation order today

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear an appeal from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) today, Thursday, 23 January, challenging a High Court ruling that instructed the Electoral Commission (EC) to finalize and declare the already declared parliamentary results in four constituencies.

The High Court, presided over by Justice Forson Baah Agyapong, issued the order on Saturday, 4 January, after granting a mandamus application filed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The ruling directed the EC to complete the collation of results for the Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, Techiman South, and Ablekuma North constituencies and announce the winners.

In accordance with the court’s order, the EC has already re-collated results for three constituencies—Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, and Techiman South—while the Ablekuma North results remain pending.

The NDC has now petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn the High Court’s decision, arguing that the ruling should be quashed and raising concerns about its potential impact on the electoral process.

The Supreme Court’s ruling on this case is expected to have significant political and legal consequences.
