Sedem Awuku Segbedzi-Semekor crowned “The Face of Lisben 2025”

A star is crowned in Kasoa

In a celebration of culture, intellect, and advocacy, Miss Sedem Awuku Segbedzi-Semekor, a Level Six learner of Royal Lisben Montessori School, has emerged as the winner of the prestigious “Face of Lisben 2025” contest. The annual event, held at the school’s premises in Kasoa TV3 Junction, drew enthusiastic participation from students, parents, and the public.

The competition, organized by the management of Royal Lisben Montessori, is designed to harness the potential of learners, expose them to Ghana’s rich cultural heritage, build confidence, and develop a sense of environmental responsibility among young learners.

Culture and confidence on display

This year’s edition featured 16 contestants, each representing one of Ghana’s sixteen regions. Their first challenge was to bring their region’s culture to life through various performances. The event saw rich displays of regional dances, traditional food exhibitions, and role-playing activities such as warriors in action, chiefs settling disputes, and other vibrant cultural enactments.

The cultural showcase was not just about entertainment—it served as an educational platform that immersed the learners and the audience in Ghana’s diverse heritage. The learners gave their all, knowing they were being keenly watched and evaluated by a panel of three judges.

Tackling environmental issues head-on

In the final round, contestants shifted their focus from tradition to transformation, as they presented project work centered on sanitation, environmental issues, and healthy living. This aspect of the competition aimed to cultivate problem-solving skills and environmental awareness among the young participants.

Miss Sedem’s presentation stood out for its depth and clarity. She addressed issues surrounding poor sanitation and offered practical solutions on how learners can champion cleanliness in schools and communities. Her eloquence, confidence, and commitment to the cause earned her the highest score from all three judges.

Winning with purpose

At the climax of the competition, Sedem was crowned “The Face of Lisben 2025.” Her victory came with a two-term tuition fee scholarship. The first and second runners-up—Samilia Anzie Quainoo and Adepa Twumwaa Adjei—were also recognized and awarded free feeding for two terms. Special awards for Best Costume and Most Eloquent Speaker were presented to other outstanding participants.

The panel of judges congratulated Sedem for her bold and articulate presentation, encouraging her to carry on her advocacy for a cleaner environment. As part of her new role, she will serve as an Ambassador for “A Clean and Healthy Environment,” leading awareness campaigns within the school and beyond.

Behind the crown: Family, faith, and determination

In a post-event interview, Sedem expressed heartfelt gratitude to the school’s management and her mentors.

“When I am determined to take up a challenge, I always put in my all,” she said with a smile. “I know my colleagues were equally good, so I took every practice session and guidance from my trainer very seriously.”

She also credited her father for his unwavering support.

“He motivated me and provided all the costumes I needed. That really made a big difference in my performance. I thank God he was there for me.”

Eyes on the future

Winning this crown is only the beginning for Sedem. She revealed her ambition to win the upcoming national UCMAS competition after finishing third in last year’s edition. With her drive, poise, and purpose, she is well on her way to achieving even greater things.

The “Face of Lisben” competition continues to inspire learners to embrace their identity, uphold cultural values, and take responsibility for their environment. With role models like Sedem leading the way, the future looks bright—not just for Royal Lisben Montessori School, but for Ghana as a whole.
