The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) has urged President Akufo-Addo to sign the recently passed Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, commonly known as the anti-gay bill, into law. The GPCC believes that this legislation is essential in protecting the cultural and family values of the nation.
In a statement released by General Secretary Apostle Immanuel Tettey, the GPCC stressed the importance of President Akufo-Addo approving the bill promptly to bring closure to the matter.
The GPCC praised the sponsors of the bill, including the Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values, and thanked Members of Parliament and the Attorney General’s office for their input. Additionally, the council acknowledged the Speaker of Parliament for his role in the bill’s passage.
Despite concerns raised during diplomatic engagements, President Akufo-Addo reassured the international community of Ghana’s commitment to human rights. He explained that the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill is currently facing a legal challenge in the Supreme Court, and until a decision is made through due process, his government will not take any action regarding the bill.
President Akufo-Addo emphasized that Ghana has a long history of upholding human rights and the rule of law, and there will be no compromise on these principles.
