Speaker leaves for 67th CPA International Conference in Australia

Alban Sumana Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, has departed for Australia to attend the 67th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) International Conference in Sydney, New South Wales.

He is leading a Ghanaian delegation that includes former Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, the two Leaders of the House, two Whips, the Clerk to Parliament, and other officials from the Parliamentary Service.

According to a press release from the Public Affairs Sub-division of the Parliamentary Service dated October 30, the conference will be held from November 3 to 8. During this event, Speaker Bagbin, the Immediate Past President of CPA International, will hand over his responsibilities to the newly elected President, the Speaker of the New South Wales Parliament.

The release also noted that Speaker Bagbin plans to return to Ghana earlier than expected due to a request from Members of Parliament to reconvene the House. He mentioned that preparations for this recall in early November are already underway. Recently, he was re-elected for a second term as President of the Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures.
