SSA-UoG begins full-blown strike Monday

The Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) has declared a nationwide strike starting on Monday, September 16, 2024, due to the government’s failure to address their demands for improved working conditions. Despite multiple protests and negotiations, the government has not met the Association’s expectations.

In a statement released by National Chairman George Ansong on September 13, the Association expressed disappointment with the government’s failure to uphold previous agreements. They highlighted various grievances, including the government’s reluctance to implement new rates for Vehicle Maintenance and related allowances as agreed upon.

Additionally, the government has not disbursed Tier Two deductions to Fund Managers since January 2024, and has not recalculated the interest on Tier Two pension funds for the period between 2010 and 2016.

All member campuses of the SSA-UoG have been instructed to participate in the strike action as a last resort, as the government’s lack of action has left them with no other choice but to escalate their protest.
