Resign if you can’t do your job – Akoto Ampaw tackles AG
Human Rights Lawyer Akoto Ampaw, and Member of Coalition for Democratic Accountability and Inclusive Governance (Citizes’Coalition) has called on Ghana’s Auditor General (AG) to immediately step down, if he cannot effectively discharge his duty to surcharge and disallowances.
The coalition made up of over 35 civil society groups and prominent individuals on Monday embarked on a protest to force a stop to the unconstitutional refusal to penalise officials who waste or misappropriate public funds.
Speaking during the anti-corruption protest in Accra on Monday 5 September) Ampaw said “The first thing is that the Auditor General must do his job, if he is not doing his job, then that is an option”.
“But for now, he has to be made to do his job and it is important that we do not allow him to pass the bar to other institutions, he has a clear constitutional mandate to disallow and surcharge.
Ampaw added “And all we are saying is that he should carry out his constitutional mandate, if he thinks he cannot do it, he should just humbly resign, so that the people of Ghana through the President will appoint someone who is ready and able”.
