‘Stop illegitimate coronation of Nii Odoi Kwao II in Nima’ -Youth of Nima to IGP
“Don’t disturb the peace in Nima” – Youth warn Nii Odoi Kwao II and Abba Cheena Gimballa
In a passionate press conference held in the heart of Nima, the youth of the vibrant and historically significant community have raised strong concerns over what they describe as “renewed efforts to destabilize the peace” by two individuals: Robert Koomson, known as Nii Odoi Kwao II, and Abba Cheena Gimballa.
Speaking on behalf of the youth, community representative Amadu Ali called on the Inspector General of Police, national security operatives, and the Ghanaian public to take swift action in preventing what they described as an “illegitimate coronation ceremony” being planned in Nima during the Homowo festival.
A history of tension
According to the youth, this is not the first time these figures have attempted to assert chieftaincy claims within the Nima community. Two years ago, a similar attempt was foiled after chiefs and traditional leaders held a press conference, which led to intervention by the Ghana Police and national security. Legal action was also taken at the time, and peace was maintained.
However, the situation appears to be resurfacing.
“This time, they are planning yet another coronation, which is not recognized by the traditional authority of Nima,” said Ali. “This is unacceptable, and we will not allow it to happen.”
A call to authorities and the public
The youth used the occasion to make a direct appeal to the country’s security institutions, urging them to be proactive in stopping any activities that could disrupt the community’s stability.
“Our leaders have already informed the police, and we trust that the national security architecture will act professionally and swiftly,” Ali added.
Commitment to peace – but with firm warning
The tone of the press conference was peaceful but resolute. The youth emphasized their desire to continue living in peace and focusing on their businesses, education, and family life. But they made it equally clear they will not sit idly by while actions they believe are harmful to community unity unfold.
“We are peace-loving people,” Ali said. “But we will not allow anyone, no matter their background or affiliations, to disturb the calm we have worked so hard to build. This so-called coronation will not happen—not on our watch.”
Legal and traditional authority speak out
Also present at the press conference was Lawyer Selma Sampong, identified as a royal of Nima. Her presence highlighted that this is not merely a youth movement, but a united front that includes members of the royal family and legal practitioners committed to preserving the rule of law and custom.
Copies of a previous press statement made by the chiefs and elders of Nima two years ago were made available to journalists at the event, offering background and historical context to the ongoing dispute.
A message of unity and resolve
The press conference ended with a firm yet hopeful message: a call for the public, media, and authorities to take this situation seriously, and a plea to those involved in what the youth describe as “nefarious activity” to desist before tensions escalate.
With a closing prayer and blessing, the youth of Nima signed off on a message that was as spiritual as it was political.
“Thank you. God bless you all. Assalamualaikum,” concluded Amadu Ali.
