Stop interfering with work or face our wrath- CLOGSAG to politicians

Civil and Local Servants Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) have sent a strong warning to Politicians to stay away from civil service business or be ready to face their wrath.

This was said by the Executive Chairman of CLOGSAG, Mr. Isaac Bampoe Addo at the 5th edition of Nathan Annan Quao lectures for 2022 under the theme “Abuse of Political Power in the Civil Service: The Bane of National Development” in Accra.

According to the chairman of CLOGSAG, the Civil Service would until provision otherwise made by Parliament, comprise both Local and Central Government as contained in the 1992 constitution and so, Politicians must heed to that provision.

He made reference to Nathan Annan Quao who worked under five successive governments without any tinge of politicisation.

Mr Bampoe Addo further said the man in question exhibited some key values and principles during his era such as leadership, integrity, loyalty, selflessness and neutrality that ensures efficiency and effectiveness in Civil Service delivery.

“It has been found out that the practice of political interference has intensified in the fourth Republic due to some key factors which includes winner takes all nature of the 1992 constitution, creation for jobs for the boys, moneycracy associated with political campaigning among others”, he angrily noted.

He again noted that there has been an observation that politicisation has continue to indirectly affect the mandate of most Civil Service Organisations, stifled development, affected the service reforms that has injured Ghana’s fledgling democracy.

“Although strengthening of our existing laws will help curb this phenomenon, it is recommended among others that, a review of the President’s power of appointment would help minimize Politicisation in Ghana’s bureaucratic set-up”, he added.

He said Politicians have not helped matters in the governance process in adhering and complying with the tenet of the Civil Service principles.

Mr Bampoe Addo again accused Politicians of recruiting party apparatchiks as consultants to perform routine Civil Service functions and pay higher unearned salaries and ends up ballooning the Civil Service wage bill.

He therefore called on Politicians to desist from such act and give way for the Civil Service to perform based on the constitution as mandated them.
