Sudan seeks to bolster diplomatic ties with Iran
On Monday, Sudan’s Foreign Minister met with his Iranian counterpart in Tehran to enhance diplomatic ties between the two nations.
Ali Youssef Ahmed Al-Sharif, Sudan’s Foreign Minister, who is in Tehran for discussions with senior Iranian officials, held a meeting with Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, on Monday evening.
During their discussions, Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s dedication to advancing its long-standing policy of strengthening ties with all Islamic countries, highlighting Sudan as a key Arab and Islamic nation.
The Iranian minister expressed sorrow over the ongoing internal conflicts in Sudan, which have inflicted severe moral and material damage on the country’s people and infrastructure.
He underscored the necessity of safeguarding Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, urging an end to foreign interference and the creation of conditions for resolving the conflict and achieving national unity.
The devastating conflict has claimed over 28,000 lives, displaced millions, and left many struggling to survive, with reports of families resorting to eating grass due to widespread famine.
The war has been marked by horrific acts, including ethnically targeted killings and rape, as reported by the United Nations and human rights organizations.
The International Criminal Court is currently investigating potential war crimes and crimes against humanity. Additionally, the U.S. has accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their allies of committing genocide during the conflict.
