TLF, UNDP mark World Ocean Day with clean-up exercise in Labomah Beach

As Ghana joins the globe to mark World Ocean Day, The Light Foundation (TLF) in partnership with UNDP has organised clean-up exercise in Labomah Beach, Accra-Ghana to celebrate Day.

World Ocean Day

Celebrated on every June 8, World Oceans Day emphasises the importance of our oceans and highlights ways people can help protect them. Oceans do so much to sustain life on Earth, including bearing the brunt of global temperatures that have been steadily warming for decades.

The World Ocean Day clean-up exercise saw the participation of over thirty (30) La residents including Assemblymen and community leaders.

Speaking during the World Ocean Day clean-up exercise in Labomah Beach Accra-Ghana organised by The Light Foundation in partnership with UNDP under gef SGP UNDP Plastic Management Programme on Wednesday 8 June 2022, PRO of The Light Foundation Imam Yusif Sakib said ” TLF in partnership with UNDP is leading advocacy on zero plastic waste management. It’s a cleaning up of the ocean, you can see the religious leaders, Imams in the Labomah Beach and the agenda is part of the bigger vision to ensure they clean up the communities when it comes to plastics. Moreover, we are urging them to reuse plastics so that they shouldn’t field the communities with plastic materials. Since morning, we’ve been here, thank all the community Leaders, Assemblymen, traditional leaders, Imams, pastors, youth and women leaders”.

“We recommend reusable plastic bags, separate trash, so that it can be easily recycled. Apart from that, they will be educated June 9, as we launch the project. It’s important to anchor the point that plastic in the ocean negatively affect our fish at sea, climate change, the depletion of the ozone layer “.
