TUC reacts to Mahama’s ‘honeymoon’ plea

If the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were to win the 2024 elections, the Trades Union Congress (TUC) would not back down on their demands. They declined former President John Mahama’s suggestion for a grace period after the election due to the financial challenges inherited from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

In a ‘Campus Connect’ event in Hohoe, Mahama reached out to Ghanaians, especially trade and labour groups, asking for time to revive the economy before addressing their specific demands. He acknowledged the teachers union, GNAT, NAGRAT, UTAG, and TEWU’s calls for better conditions of service. However, Mahama warned that the financial state of the country would be revealed in 2025 when the NDC took office.

But, Joshua Ansah, the Secretary-General of the TUC, disagreed with Mahama’s proposal and emphasized that workers would stay firm in their demands. He attributed the current economic situation to politicians and urged the former president to take immediate action if he were to win the election.
