W/R: Nkroful Magistrate abaddons official bungalow over galamsey
It has emerged that Nkroful District Court Magistrate at Ellembelle Municipality in the Western Region of Ghana has relocated from government bungalow assigned to her due to illegal mining (galamsey) activities taking place at her backyard, causing threats to her safety, security and health. Nkroful is the hometown of Ghana’s first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
A letter written by Regional Administrative Officer Diana Naana Asiam to the District Chief Executive of Ellembelle on July 14, 2022, intercepted by African Editors said “The ongoing mining at the back of the bungalow is effecting her health as galamsey take place during day and night depriving her of the need rest/sleep. Also, chemicals used for the mining activities and the noise from the area are having impact on her healt”.
“Galamsey activities ongoing posses a great threat to her life as there have been series of clashes involving galamsey operations in the area”, the letter said.
