Zoomlion prepares Accra’s ceremonial areas for Mahama’s inauguration

As Ghana readies to swear in its new President, John Dramani Mahama, on January 7, 2025, Zoomlion Ghana Limited is ensuring that the capital’s ceremonial areas are pristine and beautifully adorned. This initiative is part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility efforts.

To achieve this, Zoomlion has mobilized over 500 staff members, alongside state-of-the-art waste management equipment, to carry out extensive cleaning and beautification work.

Their tasks include cleaning the iconic Black Star Square and surrounding ceremonial streets, painting pavements and walkways, and decorating trees and traffic lights with national colours. Additionally, the team is clearing drains, weeding road medians, and sweeping the streets, all in preparation for the inauguration.

Zoomlion personnel have already begun their work, ensuring a clean, healthy, and visually appealing environment for President Mahama’s second swearing-in. National colours are being draped on trees along ceremonial streets, enhancing the festive and patriotic spirit of the occasion.

John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, triumphed in the 2024 presidential election, securing 56.55% of the vote. His main opponent, Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), conceded defeat even before the official results were announced by the Electoral Commission.

Mahama’s victory marks his return to the presidency, a role he held from 2012 to 2016. In his victory speech, he promised to introduce “severe measures and governance reforms” to “reset our nation.” The NDC also won a majority in the parliamentary elections, gaining significant seats nationwide, signaling a major shift in Ghana’s political landscape.
