2022 Budget: Minority files new motion to annul 1st Deputy Speaker’s ruling

Minority in Parliament led by Haruna Iddrisu has filed a fresh motion to challenge the conduct of Joseph Osei Owusu as First Deputy Speaker and MP for Bekwai

The latest motion by the Minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu followed the phenomenon where the first deputy speaker who was chairing proceedings directed the table office to amend the votes and proceedings of Wednesday December, 1 which captured the first Deputy Speaker to seeking to make a ruling on the minority’s motion of recision in respect on the 2022 Budget Statement and Fiscal Policy which was approved by the majority side under controversial circumstances.

According to Joseph Osei Owusu, he made a ruling and threw out the minority’s motion and therefore directed the table office to reflect same. This however did not sit well with the minority who challenged the Speaker’s directive. Minority leader, Haruna Idrisu earlier indicated he will invoke order 93(5) to question the Speaker’s conduct.

Meanwhile, parliament has taken steps to adopt the 2022 Budget after Finance Minister wrote a letter to the Speaker to reflect amendment made to the fiscal Policy.
