2022 Budget: Review 50% benchmark value or we protest at port-IEAG

Importers and Exporters association of Ghana says it has taken notice of complaints by AGI hinting of the collapse of local manufacturing sector if government does not review the 50 percent benchmark value given to the importers some two years ago by the government.

A statement issued by
Executive secretary of importers and exporters association of Ghana Asaki Samson Awingobit said “As we speak the importers in the country are the only entity riddled with all kinds of taxes and fees and charges”.

According to them “At this point in time the only life line keeping Importers and Exporters is the benchmark value. We will not hesitate to declare massive demonstration at the port if the government goes ahead to review the Policy in the upcoming 2022 budget”.

Many AGI members are all importing into this country so what are they fighting about. AGI should go to government to ask for proper utility tarrifs and lower interest rate than asking government to take off or review the benchmark value. We are hereby asking the government not to attempt reducing left alone taking it off completely.

“We shall not hestitate to do the needful if Government fall for their so called empty threats”.
