2024 Polls: ACAA seeks accreditation for church leaders
The Alliance for Christian Advocacy Africa (ACAA) is working to obtain accreditation from the Electoral Commission of Ghana for church leaders from multiple African nations, including Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Ghana, to participate in abserving the 2024 General Elections. This effort aims to involve pastors and other religious leaders in promoting peaceful elections and contribute to academic research.
The ACAA has stated that participation in the initiative is voluntary and offers no financial incentives. However, participants will receive Certificates of Participation from the organization upon completion.
The ACAA believes that involving church leaders in election observation can be crucial in ensuring the transparency of the electoral process and enhancing their role in promoting peaceful political transitions in Africa.
Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, Executive Director of Alliance for Christian Advocacy Africa
Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, Executive Director of ACAA, highlighted the significance of the initiative, stating, “Church leaders have always been important advocates for peace and justice, and their presence during elections can help prevent violence and enhance transparency.”
If approved, the accreditation process will enable pastors from various African countries to observe and report on the conduct of the December 2024 elections in Ghana.
This initiative is part of a broader mission to engage African religious leaders in electoral processes, promoting good governance and peaceful power transitions.
