Sputnik V. Vaccine saga: Agyeman-Manu writes to Al-Marktoum for refund
It has emerged per a letter sighted by African Editors that Health Minister Kweku Agyeman-Manu has written to a Member of the Ruling Family of Dubai Sheikh Ahmed Al-Marktoum to immediately refund excess money paid to him to supply vaccines to Ghana after termination of the deal.
Mr. Agyeman-Manu signed a contract of 16 million cedis with the middleman and Dubai national Al-Marktoum for supply of Sputnik V. Vaccines but failed to complied with the terms of the agreement and terminated the deal.
With the deal probed by an ad-hoc committee of parliament which revealed issues of perjury, payment without supply of the vaccines to Ghana, with the Health signing the deal without parliamentary approval and demands for his dismissal, Mr. Agyeman-Manu is hiding behind a clause in the agreement to retrieve the money from Al-Marktoum after he untruthfully admitted on oath that no money was paid to the Al-Marktoum.
There is a growing demand for Mr. Agyeman-Manu to resign by Minority Caucus of Parliament, ASEPA, Imani Africa Vice President Kofi Bentsil and the latest to join is Occupy Ghana.
Minority Caucus of Parliament has asked President Akufo-Addo to immediately sack Health Minister Kweku Agyeman-Manu or they will trigger censure process to show him the exit from office.
Speaking in the floor of parliament after the voting of debate on the report of the ad-hoc committee tasked to probe the Sputnik V Vaccine procurement was deferred, Minority Chief Whip Muntaka Mubarak said “Health Minister betrayed the oath of his office and must be sacked or they trigger censure processes ensure the President show him the exit”.
Meanwhile, Human Rights Lawyer Martin Luther Kpebu says he will petition parliament to kick-off a process that will legally nail Health Minister Kweku Agyeman -Manu on Sputnik V Vaccines procurement breaches and perjury.
Mr. Agyeman-Manu admitted on oath before the ad-hoc committee tasked by the Speaker to probe controversial Sputnik V Saga that he failed to see parliamentary approval whilst lying on oath during questioning, a clear case of perjury.
Speaking in an interview monitored by African Editors on 9 August 2021 in Accra, Lawyer Kpebu said “Agyeman-Manu is embarrassing all of us. It’s as if he’s the only talent on that but we know his is not. He must resign. I will petition parliament to initiate a process that will lead to his prosecution because he has committed perjury”the Health Minister has betrayed the oath of his office, the president must sack him or we will pass votes of censure to kick him out of office”
Meanwhile, Ghanaians have been reacting to the Sputnik V Vaccine saga on both social and legacy media.
