Akufo-Addo assents to Affirmative Action Bill

President Akufo-Addo has officially signed the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Bill 2024 into law after it was recently passed by Parliament. This confirmation was made by Minister Dakoa Newman on Thursday (19 September).

The historic bill, which aims to promote women’s participation and representation in decision-making, has been in the works for over a decade. It also aims to address gender imbalances in various sectors, as outlined in Clause 4 of Article 17 of the 1992 constitution.

The ultimate goal of the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Bill is to increase the active participation of women in public and active life to achieve a female representation rate of at least 30% by 2030, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
