Alfred Kotey Ashie wins Odododiodioo

Alfred Nii Kotey Ashie has emerged as the chosen parliamentary candidate for the Odododiodioo constituency in the upcoming 2024 General Elections under the National Democratic Congress. Out of a total of 2161 votes, he secured 1209 votes, surpassing his opponent Emmanuel Nii Okai Laryea who garnered 952 votes.

The election involved the participation of more than 2100 NDC delegates from the Odododiodioo constituency in the Greater Accra Region. Initially, the election faced delays due to an injunction filed by disqualified candidate Michael Nii Yarboi Anan. However, following the dismissal of his interlocutory injunction application, the election proceeded smoothly.

In his address to the delegates after the victory, Mr. Kotey Ashie pledged to work towards unifying the party in preparation for the December polls.

The disqualification of Michael Nii Yarboi Annan from contesting in the parliamentary election in the Odododiodioo Constituency was announced by the Functional Executive Committee of the NDC in November 2023. The party justified this decision by referring to the findings of a special committee established by the Functional Executive Committee, which concluded that Mr. Annan did not meet the requirements outlined in Article 41(8)(b) of the NDC Constitution. This article states that a member must have been an active party member at the constituency level for the four years leading up to the nomination filing date.

Initially, the primary in the Odododiodioo constituency was indefinitely postponed due to a court injunction obtained by the disqualified candidate. However, with the dismissal of the court injunction, the party has now given approval for the primary to proceed as planned.
