CJ’s $5m bribery saga: Let CHRAJ probe or public enquiry – NDC
The woes of Chief Justice His Lordship Kwasi Anin Yeboah is far from over as National Democratic Congress is demanding full scale public enquiry into $5 million allegation against him without which they are pushing for the investigation to be solely left at hands of Commissio on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).
This follows allegations levelled by Lawyer Kwasi Afrifa in his response to petition brought against him at the General Legal Council that Justice Anin Yeboah demanded a whooping $5 million from his former client Nana Ogyeedom Obranu Atta VI to influence a favourable outcomes of his matter at Ghana’s Supreme Court.
ASEPA has since petitioned CHRAJ and parliament whilst the Justice Anin Yeboah has reported the matter to the police CID for immediate investigation.
But, the NDC says it cannot trust that the police will do a good job because the CID in recent times is proven to be covering up cases.
According to the opposition party, the magnitude of the allegation and the personalities involved include a lawyer, Chief and Chief Justice demands an enquiry in the full glare of the public to unravel the truth and restore eroding confidence in the judiciary.
Speaking at a press conference monitored by African Editors on Tuesday 13 July 2021 in Accra, NDC General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketiah said “A public enquiry will settle the matter once and for all because we’re taking about $5million allegation involving learned head of the Judiciary, a chief and a lawyer…so this is a serious matter and a firm decision must be taken to ascertain the truth and restore confidence in Ghana and beyond because our learned judges have been holding positions at Kenya, Gambia and others”.
“For us, transparency is crucial in ensuring that the matter is properly investigated “.
