Communications Minister orders NCA to shut down 7 radio stations

Samuel Nartey George, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, has directed the shutdown of seven radio stations nationwide.

The Minister explained that this action was taken to ensure adherence to broadcasting regulations and national security standards.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, February 18th, the Minister announced, “Today, in two separate cases, I have instructed the National Communications Authority (NCA) to suspend and enforce a ban on broadcasting by seven (7) radio stations.”

He clarified that one of the stations was shut down on national security grounds, while the other six were operating without valid frequency authorization. This enforcement follows a recent frequency audit.

Samuel Nartey George emphasized that the directive was to take effect immediately, with additional measures to be implemented in the coming days. “The enforcement is immediate, and further action will be taken soon,” he said.

Reaffirming his dedication to media regulation, the Minister urged all media outlets to comply with the terms of their frequency licenses. “I once again reiterate my commitment to ensuring a cleaner airwave and strict compliance with the law on frequency authorizations. I urge all media houses to fully comply with the terms of their frequency authorizations,” he concluded.
