Confusion erupts at Juaben as Assembly Members refused to vote in MCE elections

Tension is blowing at Juaben Municipality of the Ashanti Region afyrt 20 out of 26 Assembly Members refused to participate in the election to confirm President Akufo-Addo’s re-nominee for the Municipality Alexander Sarfo Kantanka.

It follows the deployment of over 90 police officers and military in uniform to the Municipality ahead of the local level elections.

According to the disgruntled Assembly Members “they are intimated by the combined force of ninety (90) armed military and police offers deployed to the Municipality, the venue for the for casting their ballots.

Speaking at a press conference amidst the confusion l, the leader of the disgruntled Assembly Members Prince Oppong Kyekyeku who is the Assembly Member for Bomfa Ahenbronum Electoral Area expressed shock they “Our lives are in danger, looking at the number of the 90 security men deployed to the venue for the elections. We will not risk our lives, we have families, so we’ll not risk our lives. Just a simple confirmation of MCE, not Parliamentary or Presidential elections in the name of an order from above”.

The re-nominee popularly called “Aluta” was rejected outrightly by the Assembly Members as he secured six votes, out of the 26 total valid votes cast in the first election.

President Akufo Addo has re-nominated him for the post which election is supposed to be held today at 2:00 pm.

In view of this, some members of the Municipality have threatened to beat the Assembly Members if they refuse to confirm the re-nominee today.

Meanwhile, some residents in the Municipality have massed up at the Juaben Paramount Chief Palace, where during which Council of State Chair Nana Otuo Serebour has engaged the angry Assembly Members to calm tempers.

Confirmation of MMDCES has led to confusion in Cape Coast and other area with Juaben, the paramountcy of Council of State Chair Nana Otu Serebour.
