Court orders lady to pay ₦150k for failing to visit boyfriend after receiving ₦3k transport fare

A Magistrate Court in Ilesa, Osun State, has directed Rhoda Adu to pay ₦150,000 in damages to her boyfriend, Olapitan Sola, after she failed to visit him as promised, despite receiving ₦3,000 for transport.

The incident began when Sola transferred ₦3,000 to Rhoda for her travel, but she subsequently turned off her phone and did not show up. Feeling deceived and emotionally distressed, Sola reported the matter to the Ayeso Police Station, leading to Rhoda’s arrest and appearance in court.

During the trial, Sola presented evidence, including the mobile money transfer and WhatsApp messages exchanged between the two.

Magistrate Akogun Oludare ruled that Rhoda should refund the ₦3,000 and pay an additional ₦100,000 for breach of agreement, as well as ₦50,000 in special damages for emotional distress. The court emphasized that the ruling was meant to serve as a deterrent against such actions.
