Court slaps Asamoah Gyan with GHç1m damages

Asamoah Gyan has been ordered by the Accra High Court to pay GHC 1 million in damages to Ghanaian journalist Osarfo Anthony for malicious prosecution.

In 2015, Osarfo was accused of conspiring to extort money from Gyan and his manager, but he was acquitted in 2019.

Subsequently, Osarfo sued Gyan and his manager for maliciously prosecuting him and today, he won the lawsuit. Osarfo expressed his satisfaction with the verdict, stating that it cleared his name and compensated him for the damages he suffered.

The case stemmed from allegations made by a woman named Sarah Kwabla, who claimed to have been raped and sodomized by Gyan. Osarfo published a story after receiving evidence from Ms. Kwabla and hearing Gyan’s denial through his lawyer.
