Daasebre Oti Boateng introduces Root-Based Model to Akufo-Addo, Bawumia, commends them for 2021 Census & Covid-19 fight

Omanhene of New Juaben, Chancellor of All Nations University and former Government Statistician Daasebre Prof. (Emeritus) Oti Boateng has commended President Akufo-Addo and his Vice Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for taking urgent steps to kick-off 2021 Population and Housing Census and stringent measures adopted in containing, combating and preventing the spread of infectious Covid-19 pandemic whilst urging them to take a cue from his award-winning Root-Based Model for sustainable development of Africa.

Addressing a high-powered government delegation led by President Akufo-Addo including his Vice Dr. Bawumia, Alan Kyerematen, Kennedy Agyepong and others during the funeral of the father of Gabby Asare Okyere-Darko and Oyokohene of New Juaben Barima Okyere Boateng on Saturday 3 July 2021 at Koforidua, the former Government Statistician Daasebre Oti Boateng said “I commend Your Excellency’s exemplary leadership in the fight against COVID-19 with Ghana being counted among nations across the globe with excellent pandemic management and low infections”.

Daasebre Oti Boateng noted that “I deeply applaud Your Excellency’s bold initiative in pushing ahead with the ongoing population and housing census. As a former Government Statistician who conducted the 1984 population census, I am ready to put my professional expertise at the disposal of government to ensure optimal and beneficial utilization of data garnered from the exercise”.

Daasebre Oti Boateng has also introduced to President Akufo-Addo and his Vice Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia the award-winning Root-Based Model.

Daasebre noted that: “Your Excellency, the Root-based development project being undertaken by the New Juaben Traditional Council underpins development at the local level:
(i) in rallying citizens in the fight against COVID-19.
(II) in facilitating community health and sanitation drive, and
(iii) in promoting community economic development and empowerment”.

BELOW IS THE WELCOME ADDRESS BY DAASEBRE PROF. (EMERITUS) OTI BOATENG, OMANHENE OF NEW JUABEN, DURING THE VISIT OF PRESIDENT AKUFO-ADDO TO ATTEND THE FUNERAL OF BARIMA OKYERE BOATENG, AYOKOHENE OF NEW JUABEN, 3RD JULY 2021.
(Statement Given at the Presidential Reception Hall at Omanhene’s Palace)

On behalf of the Chiefs and people of New Juaben, and the Ayokoɔ family in particular, I welcome you to the funeral ceremony of our beloved Barima Okyere Boateng.

We also thank you most sincerely for the honour of mourning with us.

Let me take this opportunity to congratulate Your Excellency for your reappointment as ECOWAS Chairman and for the diplomatic campaign that won Ghana a Seat on the UN Security Council on 11th June 2021.

I also commend Your Excellency’s exemplary leadership in the fight against COVID-19 with Ghana being counted among nations across the globe with excellent pandemic management and low infections.

I deeply applaud Your Excellency’s bold initiative in pushing ahead with the ongoing population and housing census. As a former Government Statistician who conducted the 1984 population census, I am ready to put my professional expertise at the disposal of government to ensure optimal and beneficial utilization of data garnered from the exercise.

BARIMA OKYERE BOATENG
The late Barima Okyere Boateng was the Mmrontuohene and the Head of the Oyoko Clan in New Juaben. The Mmorontuo Stool is traditionally occupied by an uncle of the Juaben Omanhene. Known in private life as Dr. Joseph Felix Otchere-Darko, Barima Okyere Boateng was enstooled on 16th August, 2005. His parents were Opanin Kwame Okyere of Baman in the Asante Juaben Traditional Area (father) and Odehyie Akosua Dufie of Koforidua (mother).
Dr. Joseph Otchere-Darko was a physician, dental surgeon general surgeon and Trauma-Surgeon (traumatologist).

Barima Okyere Boateng was laid in state at the Nana Ama Serwaa Complex Hall, Omanhene’s Palace, Koforidua, where filing past the body took place from 11.00am on Friday July 2, to 2.00pm on Saturday July 3, 2021 to allow as many people as possible the opportunity of viewing within the COVID-19 protocols. In accordance with customary law and usage, the tribute of the Omanhene and all the Chiefs of the Traditional Area was encapsulated in the swearing-of-oath ceremony which took place at the Mmorontuo Ahenfie on Thursday night before the body was laid in state at the Yiadom-Hwedie Palace.

He left behind his wife, Mrs. Felicia Otchere-Darko (retired state attorney) and eight children, namely, Mrs Margaret Otchere Darko Asiedu (retired Care Worker, UK), Mr Joseph Otchere-Darko Jnr. (ex-Banker UK), Dr. Paulina Kitcher deGraft-Johnson (Psychiatrist, Neurologist, US), Gabby Yaw Asare Otchere-Darko (Barrister & Solicitor, Ghana), Dr. Leticia Otchere-Darko (Anaesthesiologist,, US),Miss Becky Otchere-Darko (ICU & Research Nurse, UK)’ Mrs. Daisy Okyere (Attorney, US) and Dr. Josephine Otchere-Darko (Physician and Public Health Specialist).
