Dec. 7: Police detain 88 suspects allegedly recruited for election duties

Ghana Police Service has detained 88 individuals who were intercepted on two Metro Mass Transit buses at Benchema, near Asawinso in the Western North Region, on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were allegedly recruited by a man named “Sammy” from various areas in the Greater Accra Region, including Adenta, Oyarifa, and Madina. They were reportedly being transported to the Western North Region to provide security at polling stations during the upcoming elections.

The suspects are currently in police custody, where they are assisting with the investigation. Authorities are also working to locate Sammy, who is believed to have coordinated the recruitment, as part of the ongoing inquiry.

The police have assured the public of their commitment to thoroughly investigating the matter and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.
