Democracy Hub protestors erred but forgive them –Rev. Korankye Ankrah
Apostle General Sam Korankye Ankrah, Founder of the Royal House Chapel International, has called upon the government and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to release the Democracy Hub protestors on bail. He believes that holding these individuals in custody will only worsen the situation and incite anger among others who may be inclined to commit acts of wrongdoing against the country.
Speaking during a Sunday service, Apostle General Ankrah emphasized that imprisoning the protesters does not address the underlying issues at hand. He urged the authorities to grant bail to the young boys and girls who were arrested during the demonstration against illegal mining and the prevailing hardships in the nation.
Additionally, Apostle General Ankrah advised the youth to conduct themselves peacefully during protests, emphasizing the importance of matching slogans and placards with their actions. He stressed the need to avoid violence and promote a peaceful democratic process in the country.
The protests, which took place between September 21 and 23, escalated into violence, leading to clashes between demonstrators and the police. The Ghana Police Service accused the protesters of various infractions, resulting in the arrest and detention of 53 individuals.
Despite claims by the prosecution that the protesters are being well cared for, defence lawyers argued for their clients’ release on bail due to the harsh conditions in custody. The prosecution opposed the bail requests, citing concerns about the protesters’ addresses.
Ultimately, the judge denied the bail applications, ordering the protesters to remain in custody until October 8. Following the court proceedings, the remanded protesters expressed their discontent by singing patriotic songs.
