Economy recorded strong growth in 1st quarter- Ofori-Atta

Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta says the Ghanaian economy recorded strong growth during the first quarter of 2021 despite Covid-19 pandemic.

According to him, total exports reached $7.6 billion in the first quarter, 52.3 million was distributed to the creative industry players, media has been assisted, impacts of Covid-19 on SMEs has been minimised and 290 women beneficiaries in the SMEs sector have been taken through training in finance management.

Speaking during the Mid-Year-Budget-Review at parliament in Accra on Thursday 29 July 2021, Ken Ofori-Atta said “Government transformational agenda is on cause”.

In a sharp reaction, Chairman of Finance Committee of Parliament and former Deputy Finance Minister Kwaku Kwarteng insists a collapsed economy cannot finance free SHS.

Meanwhile, Ken Ofori-Atta has also promised that government will provide $25m seed fund for producing vaccines.
