Empower law faculties to train lawyers- Ex-Deputy AG

Former Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice Joseph Dindiok Kpemka says the only way to resolve the perennial roadblocks to legal education in Ghana is to give accreditation to many faculties of law to professionally train LLB holders upon graduation.

His comment comes at the back of the cycle of mass failures of LLB holders who have been seeking admission into the Ghana School of Law.

Only 790 out of 2,824 candidates passed the exam this year.

According to him, apart from Ghana School of law, KNUST, University of Ghana and other facilities of law will be enough to absorb the many LLB holders being produced at 12 law faculties in the country if they are empowered.

The failed 499 students seeking admission to Ghana School of Law has petitioned the General Legal Council to resolve the hindrances to legal training.

According to him, the reason for the troubles on the legal education front is because of lack of adequate facilities to admit many LLB holders.

Reacting to the issue, the former Deputy Attorney General Dindiok Kpemka says the General Legal Council would be creating the current problem if the modalities and mood of grading system for admitting students into the Ghana School of Law was not well-explained to candidates before conducting the entrance examination.
