Ex-Zambian Prez calls for early election
Former President of Zambia, Dr. Edgar Lungu, has called upon the people of Zambia to demand an early election due to allegations of mismanagement of the nation’s economy by his successor, Hakainde Hichilema (HH).
Lungu criticized Hichilema’s handling of the cholera outbreak, which has resulted in the loss of almost 600 lives since October.
During a public address on Wednesday, Lungu stressed the importance of Zambians exerting pressure on President Hichilema, stating that an early election is necessary. He urged citizens to vocalize their demand for Hichilema’s resignation and the initiation of early elections.
In response to Lungu’s statements, government spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa swiftly dismissed the allegations, urging Zambians to give the president enough time to fulfill his campaign promises. Mweetwa also accused the former president of causing damage to the country’s economy during his six-year tenure.
Lungu, who announced his return to politics in October, faced the consequences of the government revoking his retirement benefits.
