The late Enoch Teye Mensah, former MP for the Ningo-Prampram Constituency and member of the Council of State, has been laid to rest in his residence at Prampram. The ceremony took place on Thursday, January 4, and will be followed by the final burial service on Friday, January 5, at the Forecourt of the State House. On Sunday, January 7, a Thanksgiving Service will be held in his honor at the Methodist Church in Prampram. Mr. E.T Mensah passed away at the age of 77 in October 2023 in South Africa following a period of illness.
Born on May 17, 1946, in Prampram, Greater Accra Region, Ghana, he attended the SNAPS College of Accountancy, earning his degree in 1968. He later obtained his RSA III in 1970 and became a fellow of the Institute of Financial Accountants in 1986. He worked at the University of Ghana, Legon as an Accounting Officer. During the PNDC military regime, he served as Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and became a member of the National Democratic Congress when it was formed in 1992.
In 1996, Mr. E.T Mensah was elected as a Member of Parliament for the second parliament of the fourth republic of Ghana. At the beginning of the Fourth Republic, he served as the Minister for Youth and Sports under President Jerry Rawlings. He held this position throughout both terms of the Rawlings government. In January 2010, under a cabinet reshuffle, President John Atta Mills appointed him Minister for Employment and Social Welfare. He was also a member of the Pan-African Parliament until his resignation in January 2009. In January 2011, he was appointed Minister for Education.
On February 12, 2021, Mr. Mensah was unanimously elected as the representative of the Council of State for the Greater Accra Region. He leaves behind a legacy as a devoted public servant and a loving husband and father to his seven children.
