Ghana Gas Governing Board engages Karpowership’s managers
Board begins familiarization tour
The newly inaugurated governing board of the Ghana National Gas Company Limited, led by Board Chairman Hon. Kofi Totobi Quakyi, has commenced a familiarization tour with a working visit to the Western Region. This forms part of efforts to gain firsthand insights into the company’s operational systems and challenges.
Interaction with Staff at Takoradi Office
The board, accompanied by selected management members, began the visit at the Takoradi office, where they held a productive engagement session with staff. Discussions focused on policy realignment and the path forward for the company under the new board’s direction.
Courtesy call on traditional leadership
The delegation paid a courtesy call on Nana Kobina Nketsiah (V), President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, at his palace in Essikadu. The meeting centered on strengthening cooperation between Ghana Gas and traditional authorities and exploring how both can address pressing issues affecting the well-being of the Western Region.
Site visits reveal Staff concerns
During a visit to operational sites within the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis, including the Takoradi Distribution Station (TDS), the board interacted with field workers. Staff expressed concerns over logistical limitations and welfare challenges experienced under the previous administration.
Strategic engagement with Karpowership Management
The day culminated in a significant session with the management of the Karpowership, the 470-megawatt floating power plant that receives natural gas exclusively from Ghana Gas. The company currently delivers between 80 and 90 million standard cubic feet of gas per day to the power ship, which supplies 23% of the national electricity demand.
Praise for efficiency and assurance of supply
Karpowership management commended Ghana Gas for its commitment to consistent and timely gas supply. The CEO, Ms. Judith Adjobah Blay, reaffirmed Ghana Gas’s dedication to maintaining steady gas flow, emphasizing its critical role in ensuring electricity reliability for the country.
Vision for the future
Board Chairman Hon. Totobi Quakyi expressed optimism about the future, stressing the board’s resolve to streamline operations, prioritize core mandates, and significantly improve staff welfare—both technical and non-technical.
