Ghana marks 67th Independence Day

Today, on March 6, 2024, Ghana is celebrating its 67th Independence Day anniversary. The Independence Day parade will be held in Koforidua, located in the Eastern Region, under the theme “Our Democracy, Our Pride.”

The parade will feature school children and members of the security services. Ghana was the first sub-Saharan African country to gain independence from the United Kingdom.

This day marks the historic declaration of independence by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah on March 6, 1957. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Our democracy, our pride.”

The President of Ivory Coast, Alassane Ouattara, will grace the occasion as the esteemed Special Guest. The event will be attended by over 5000 individuals from across the country, including members of the diplomatic corps, clergy, traditional leaders, and other dignitaries.

In 2017, President Akufo-Addo introduced the rotational basis for the Independence Day celebration, ensuring it is held in different regions periodically.
