Veterans Association of Ghana (VAG) has appealed to President Akufo-Addo to shoot up their monthly allowance to improve their living standards.
Speaking to the media on the current state of affairs, Ashanti Regional Secretary of Veteran Association of Ghana, Ex-Warrant Officer One (WO1) George Appiah disclosed that “some of their members are currently bedridden and are living in very poor conditions”.
He said this during the 76th Remembrance Day Service held in Kumasi adding that some of their members are unable cater for their homes because their inability pay medical bills and homeostatic needs.
Appiah lamented that that the government does not take proper care of them. In view of this, he wants the government to address their concerns including their health and children’s education.
For his part, Ex Warrant Officer also wants their monthly allowance increased.
Meanwhile, 93-year-old Ex-Sergeant Samuel Kwabeng who says he receives GH¢1,500 monthly allowances that’s woefully inadequate to run homes.
Contributing to the matter, Ex-WO1 George Appiah also complained about the falling standards in the military recently. His comment comes at the period the country has witnessed military brutalities and killing of unarmed civilians in Techiman, Ejura, Tamale and other parts of Ghana.
