KAMA Group founder Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo is dead

Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo, the founder of KAMA Group of Companies, has died at the age of 74. Reports indicate he passed away on November 1.

In 2005, he received an honorary doctorate from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and was among the 88 PhD graduates from the University of Ghana in 2022.

A prominent entrepreneur, Addo made significant contributions to Ghana’s pharmaceutical industry through the KAMA Group, which included various subsidiaries, though he has since divested from his pharmaceutical production company. He also held the title of Nkabomhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area in Koforidua, Eastern Region.

Addo began his career in 1983 by operating a pharmaceutical shop in Kumasi, and in 1986, he expanded into manufacturing medical products from his garage, leading to the establishment of KAMA Group—a conglomerate with numerous wholesale and retail outlets across Ghana.

Beyond pharmaceuticals, he managed a microfinance firm, a real estate business, and a multi-purpose conference center. Additionally, Addo founded the Kama Education Project, aimed at training teachers to cultivate entrepreneurial skills in students from an early age, and he authored several books to inspire a can-do attitude in the younger generation.
