Landgurds storm GPRTU lorry park at Kasoa to create chaos
Suspected landguards stormed the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) lorry station at Kasoa in the Central region with clubs and weapons and vandalized the premises of the Executives at the station over an unresolved issue but upon intervention of the Police, peace was restored and some people were arrested.
African Editors’ sources have confirmed that one former Chairman of GPRTU branch at Kasoa called Alhaji Artey hired the the said suspect landguards to come and cause mayhem over a Petition he was found guilty.
Other sources also revealed that the said former Chairman was later interdicted after thorough investigation by a committee formed by management of GPRTU based on a Petition against him by his former colleagues at the workplace on an issue of misappropriation and mismanagement of funds.
The source again indicated that Alhaji Artey was send to Ofaakor Circuit Court based on the committee report for proper action to be taken against him but later resigned even though the Court has not pronounced judgement on the case.
“Therefore new Interim Management Committee was set up to oversee the affairs of the branch at the station for a 3-months period after his resignation from the Union as a member”, the source said.
But the suspected landgurds appeared this at the station on Tuesday with weapons and other stuff and scattered the premises but were stopped by the Kasoa Police force and some were arrested for Court.
“Through the intervention of Kasoa Police some suspects were arrested but released because the Court was not sitting on that faithful day because of the festive occasion”, an eyewitness said.
Furthermore, it was noted that the Police have refused to act on the case by putting the suspected landguards arrested and released before the Court. When the DSP of the station was contacted for his side of the story, he refused to comment though he confirmed such action took place at the station .
“Though the Court issue is pending and every procedure due to process the suspects to court, we found out that the DSP has refused to prosecute them because according to the Laws of Ghana, their actions are criminal and they must face the law”, one worker said.
