LGBTQ+ Bill: ‘I’m very shocked NPP MPs are silent’-NPP’s Obiri Boahene

Deputy General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Obiri Boahene has expressed shock at the continues manner the current NPP Members of Parliament are silent, and their deliberate total refusal to preach against LGBTQ+, gay homosexuality and lesbianism publicly ever since the matter resurfaced in the public sphere, almost inevitable on the airwaves.

According to him, he is struggling to understand why MPs of the governing NPP folded their hands and sit unconcerned for only NDC minority in parliament to be sponsoring a bill that criminalises homosexuality, a forbidden fruit of our time.

Apart from not sponsoring the Proper Human Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, Obiri Boahene says the total silence of his own party- NPP MPs on the LGBTQ+ debate in the public domain is a source of worry and cause of concern to him.

Speaking on the on the homosexuality-gayism and lesbianism debate, the NPP Deputy General Secretary Nana Obiri Boahene expressed shock that “To be honest, I’m very, very surprised that my party, the NPP MPs are silent on the LGBTQ+ Bill and cannot preach against homosexuality, gays….I’m can’t understand why the MPs are silent, I’m simply surprised, I don’t get it…why are they quiet”.

Obiri Boahene indicated that “Lawyer Akoto Ampaw is my friend but let me tell him, I’m very disappointed in him….I mean how can you say a man should have an affair with another man …are we animals? Look …Akoto Ampaw, I totally disagree with you. I’m totally in support of the LGBTQ+ Bill currently before parliament”.

Lawyer Akoto Ampaw is leading a group of lawyers and professors including CDD-GHANA Boss Kwesi H. Prempeh, Dean of University of Ghana Law School Prof. Raymond Atuguba, Dean of University of Ghana School Prof. Audrey Gadzekpo, CDD-GHANA Founder Prof. Gyimah Boadi, Former Citi FM Journalist Nana A Agyeman Asante, Prof. Kwame Karikari, Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobey and others who have already presented petition to parliament to reject the LGBTQ+ Bill.

Meanwhile, Christian groups have disputed the genetic argument and calls for passage of the Bill into law to bring closure to the homosexuality debate in Ghana.

According to them, homosexuality is an preference they offended Ghanaian cultural values and not a right .
