Minority rejects attempts to settle Ken Agyapong’s case outside Privileges C’ttee
Ranking Member on Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has sent a strong signal to the Majority Caucus of the house that his side will not kowtow to any form of out-of-court settlement pertaining to Kennedy Agyapong’s contempt of Parliament case currently before the Privileges Committee.
It has emerged that the Majority Caucus of Parliament are making frantic efforts to resolve vociferous Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong’s contempt of parliament matter out of the Privileges Committee.
African Editors can confirm that there is already diplomatic process triggered by NPP Leadership in Parliament led by his long existing Counsel and Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo Markin to water down the case of Kennedy Agyapong and jump into his defense in a serious matter that could land him into trouble and attract severe punishment.
The firebrand Chair of parliament’s Defense and Interior Committee was referred to the Privileges Committee by the Speaker after Mr. Agyapong threatened to beat the Multimedia Journalist Erastus Asare Donkor for testimonies he adduced at Justice Koomson-led Committee tasked to probe unfortunate shooting incidence at Ejura.
But, at parliament during debates to Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo Markin said “Engagement process has been triggered by his side at the level of leadership to settle the matter without going through the long procedure at the Privileges Committee and Mr. Agyapong who is at the center of the referral is cooperating”.
In a sharp rebuttal, North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says “Any out-of-court settlement process by Afenyo Markin is out of the standard procedure. Ken must go to the the Privileges Committee. Let’s not set bad precedents”.
