McDan Foundation, RIDNE Food Consortium Support 7,000 Women in La
A day of care and compassion in La
On a bright Friday morning, April 10, 2026, the usually calm grounds of McDan La Town Park transformed into a place of hope, dignity, and support. Thousands of widows and vulnerable women gathered, some arriving at dawn, united by a shared anticipation—relief was on the way. This was the 2026 edition of the Widows Support Project, a growing humanitarian effort led by the McDan Foundation in partnership with the RIDNE Food Consortium. By the end of the day, about 7,000 women from La and surrounding communities would leave not just with food and medicine, but with renewed hope.
Nourishment for the body
Under neatly arranged tents, volunteers worked tirelessly, handing out essential food supplies. Each woman received a carefully prepared package containing rice, gari, pasta, drinks, water, and biscuits—items chosen to sustain households beyond just a single meal.
For many, this support meant the difference between uncertainty and security, even if just for a while. The orderly distribution reflected not just efficiency, but respect for every individual present.
Healing beyond hunger
But the outreach went far beyond food. A team from the Viva Health Medical Foundation set up a fully functional health screening center right at the park.
Women moved from station to station receiving free medical care—eye examinations, blood pressure and sugar checks, bone and joint assessments, hearing tests, and BMI and nutrition evaluations. There were even mental wellness consultations, offering emotional support often overlooked in such programs. For those diagnosed with conditions, prescribed medications were provided immediately and at no cost, ensuring that care didn’t end with diagnosis.
A commitment backed by action
The scale of the outreach was significant, with an estimated cost of one million Ghana cedis. Speaking at the event, Daniel McKorley, founder of the McDan Group, emphasized the deeper purpose behind the initiative. He described the partnership with RIDNE as strong and steadily growing, adding that there are plans to expand the Widows Support Project to other African countries—bringing similar relief to more communities across the continent.
A global partnership on display
The event also highlighted international solidarity. A delegation from Ukraine was present, underscoring the cross-border collaboration driving the project forward. Among them were Denys Bashlyk, Oleksiy Pinchuk, Ivan Lukachuk, and Oleksii Khvorostianyi. They were joined by key figures like Serhii Kovalchuk, Michael Penrose, Kostyantyn Romanets, and Joshua Asamoah Kyetemeh. Their presence symbolized a shared commitment—one that bridges continents to support vulnerable communities.
Voices of gratitude
Amid the structured activities, the most powerful moments came from the women themselves. Many expressed deep appreciation, describing the event as something they look forward to every year. To them, it wasn’t just about receiving food or medical care. It was about being seen, remembered, and valued—a rare and meaningful experience for many who often feel overlooked.
A collective effort
Behind the scenes, staff from across the McDan Group worked hand-in-hand to ensure the day ran smoothly. From logistics to crowd coordination, every detail was handled with care.
Organisers reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining and growing the initiative, noting that the partnership with RIDNE will continue to expand its reach and impact.
The path forward
As the sun set over La, the park slowly emptied, but the impact of the day lingered. Bags of food were carried home, medications carefully stored, and hearts quietly uplifted. The 2026 Widows Support Project was more than an event—it was a reminder of what is possible when compassion meets collaboration. And if the promises made are fulfilled, this story is only just beginning.
